Since the disintegration of Yugoslavia, South-Eastern Europe is generally viewed as an area of conflict. Even today, twenty years after the end of the civil war, politics are still based on ethnicity. The author Andrej Nikolaidis, who was born in the former Yugoslav city of Sarajevo and has been living in Montenegro since the outbreak of the war, is one of the most influential younger-generation intellectuals. Time and time again he rubs salt into the wounds of the present and triggers heated debates. His latest novel ‹Son› (Istros Books, 2013) will be published in September.
Nikolaidis will discuss opinions with the Belgrade-based literature scientist and co-author of the novel ‹Cornflower Blue› (Diogenes, 2013) Jelena Volić, who is an active advocate of an open society. She currently teaches ‹New German Literature› and ‹German Culture History› in Belgrade and Kragujevac. The discussion will be moderated by Andreas Zumach, a correspondent at the UN in Geneva and an expert in the field of international law and human rights.
