The multi-award winning pianist BOJAN Z (Z for Zulfikarpašić) was born in Belgrade (Serbia) in 1968. He started playing the piano at the age of five. In 1986, he received a scholarship to study for three months with Clare Fischer at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan, USA. During his national service at the end of the 1980s he played in the army orchestra and discovered the richness of traditional Balkan music. At the age of 20, he decided to leave his hometown and move to Paris, where he studied at the CIM Jazz School. He soon became a household name in the French jazz scene. With his special language - consisting of a mature jazz vocabulary combined with a subtle sprinkling of folkloric influences - Bojan leaves an unforgettable impression. He has a very personal style. Based on his classical training, he strolls through the realms of other music genres - from Brazilian music and The Beatles, through Balkan folk songs and blues to jazz. He is also not afraid to go down other paths, but never loses his sense of melody. Bojan Z is definitely one of the most extraordinary talents of the European jazz scene. In May 2012, the ‹Rolling Stone› classed his latest album ‹Soul Shelter› (2012, Emarcy/Universal) as «... a complex, diverse, audacious and ultimately superbly poetic work of art. The kind of thing to listen to all day...»
On Mo 09.12. Bojan Z will be performing in Moods Zurich along with TAMARA OBROVAC and her ‹TRANSHISTRIA ENSEMBLE›.
