The Vienna-based Slovenian Maja Osojnik has made a name for herself as a recorder player, singer and electro-sound producer in various projects for old, new and experimental music. Furthermore, she has been involved intensively with jazz and the dark, melancholic side of Slovenian folk music. All these influences were put to good use on her magnificent 2006 debut album ‹Oblaki so rdeči› (Red Clouds). On her latest album ‹Črne Vode› (Black Water) she again manages to weave a wonderful thread that holds everything together as a complete work of art: A type of concept album on which every song is dedicated to human fate, whose main characters reappear in the next song in a supporting role. This intertwining ensured the various pieces of this prestigious project were put together to create an album that attracted ‹cult status› even before its release. It contains exceptional songs, such as the one about the friendship between the cleaner Slavica and a homeless man called Franz, and a Slovenian partisan song - and it would not be Maja Osojnik if it were not the first ever gay partisan song.
In Austria, the award-winning musician has quickly developed from being an insider tip to one of the most sought-after musicians, and can now be heard regularly at festivals around the country together with her awesome band.
