As part of a Kosovar-Swiss cooperation, professional musicians and 55 children joined forces in a choir and orchestra to realise the first Kosovar musical at the new Gjakova Music School. Six months of enthusiastic rehearsal - singing, playing music, dancing and learning lines - was followed by a premiere in Gjakova in April 2013 and a hugely successful tour of Kosovo.
At first, the love story between Arietha and Gezimi is without conflict, before being overshadowed by an old family feud. But the first real test comes when the three villains wish to kidnap Arietha. Gezimi is put under pressure and eventually threatened with murder. Despite this, the strong and sparkling love between the two is never in doubt.
The music was composed by Trimor Dhomi, a young composer from Pristina, who also undertook the role of musical director. The contemporary composition is interspersed with traditional elements from the local region. Georg Darvas from Switzerland was the director. The initiators and producers of the project are Dorothea and Georg Fankhauser.
