‹Hypermnesia› is the name given to a condition affecting a whole generation in the former Yugoslavia. In psychology, the term ‹Hypermnesia› describes a memory phenomenon that provides individuals with an abnormally strong memory of the past and usually occurs in connection with strong emotional events where the intensive feelings connected to the memories block the normal process of forgetting. Eight actors from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo have delved into their childhood memories for the play of the same name by the Bosnian director Selma Spahić. Based on these recollections, the young author and director from Sarajevo assembled a theatrical event that provides an exemplary setting for theatrical language and performance. Spahić's work is deeply touching and triggers intensive feelings in both the audience and the actors. The active confrontation with the past should help the actors and audience to deal with the present. Awarded the IATC Jury Award of the MESS Festival Sarajevo in 2011, this production manages to build bridges without concealing the harsh truth. ‹Hypermnesia› was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, the Serbian Ministry of Education, the Belgrade Youth Office, Youth Initiative for Human Rights, the National Theatre Sarajevo and the Small Theatre ‹Duško Radović›.
