Belgrade, 2004: In ‹Cornflower Blue› (‹Kornblumenblau›, Diogenes 2013), the charismatic Serbian criminologist Milena Lukin investigates her first case and is confronted with the military elite and an unresolved past.
The author Jelena Volić was born in Belgrade and studied Literature, Italian, Slavonic and German in Belgrade, Florence, Groningen, Münster and Berlin. She currently teaches new German Literature and German Culture History in Belgrade and Kragujevac. She wrote her novel ‹Cornflower Blue› together with her old friend, the German author Christian Schünemann. The murder-mystery of the unusual author duo is based on a true case: On 5 October 2004, two Serbian soldiers were found dead in a Belgrade military camp, supposedly suicide. An investigation, however, uncovered something else ... ‹Cornflower Blue› is a great portrait of the city of Belgrade nine years after the end of the Bosnian war.
