ShazaLaKazoo is an electro producer and musician duo from Belgrade. The two turntable rockers Milan Djurić and Uroš Petković have been performing together since the late 1990s: At first as part of a four-piece jazz combo and then as an electro-equipment duo. Milan and Uroš bought their first computer with music software around the turn of the millennium. At that time, triphop, drum'n'bass and jungle were extremely popular in the clubs. This gave the two of them an idea: If it is so easy to combine reggae with dancing club sounds, why not try the same with traditional Balkan music? So they took a few local traditional melodies, overlaid them with electro beats and mixed it all with sounds from Latin America, Africa or the Middle East. The result was the unmistakeable ShazaLaKazoo sound, which the two musicians humorously refer to as ‹folkstep›.
ShazaLaKazoo has been entertaining audiences in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Finland and Norway since 2000. The two party animals put on a real stage show for their followers with virtuosic solos on a USB clarinet and electro violin. ShazaLaKazoo has already released two albums: ‹Speaking Balkanian› (2010) and ‹Karton City Boom› (2011). Their compositions and remixes can also be heard on various compilations and releases by other artists.
