The works of the Slovenian dancer, performer and choreographer Mala Kline deal with how images move people - images as a primitive language of the body and nature. Kline studied Philosophy, Literature and Theatre in Ljubljana, Amsterdam and New York. Her artistic work is engaged with the search for a real relationship between the performer and the audience, focussing on the presentation of various emotional states.
In her solo rock performance ‹EDEN›, the award-winning dancer juxtaposes two worlds that arise in the encounter between performer and artist. The stage design is an empty nightclub. The soloist moves freely within this space and creates a dreamland with imaginary inhabitants, even people in the audience become figures in this world. Mala Kline moves, dances and even grabs a guitar. The here and now of the theatrical encounter collides with the world of images that exist in the spaces within, outside and in-between the bodies. Opposites and paradoxes collide in ‹EDEN› in a playful and humorous manner. It is not a coincidence that the Slovenian word ‹eden› means both ‹heaven› and ‹one›.
The work was produced together with the Croatian avant-garde rock band East Rodeo and sound artists of the Sonolab Studio.
