As part of the CULTURESCAPES festival, Kunsthalle Basel is offering four guided tours of the current exhibitions by Allyson Vieira and Leonor Antunes in Slovenian, Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian, Macedonian and Albanian. The tours will be conducted by people who were born in the Balkans, but grew up or have lived in Switzerland for a long time. A guided tour is prepared in dialogue with the exhibiting artists and conducted in the mother tongue of the respective guide.
Leonor Antunes
‹the last days in chimalistac›
Su 22.09. - Sun 10.11.
The Portuguese artist Leonor Antunes (*1972) uses the past to create new contextual tones in her work. The artist's interest focuses primarily on sculptures. The starting point is the space between the observer and the object and vice versa. Wood, leather and metal - materials strongly associated with a trade and which change over the course of time - dominate Antunes' work and shift between modern architecture and design.
Allyson Vieiras
‹The Plural Present›
Sa 14.09. - Sun 10.11.
Allyson Vieira's sculptures, installations and photographs deal with the question of myths upon which cultures and eras are based. To achieve this goal, she employs various forms, such as the contrapposto, which was also popular in classical antiquity. Realised with simple building materials, such as plaster, concrete or metal, the works convey the artist's interest in the relationship between form, material and production process.
