They are full of energy, they are critical and they address taboo subjects in their lyrics: Vladimir Arsenijević, Daša Drndić, Andrej Nikolaidis and Nenad Veličković from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia write about love and the shadow of the war, about post-socialism, daily life and Europe.
The ‹regional literary festival which banishes boredom and lethargy› (abbreviated as ‹KROKODIL› in Serbian) was founded in Belgrade in 2009 and presents interesting voices from the former Yugoslavia as a multimedia event - and is accompanied by a cuddly crocodile. As a transnational project, the festival uses the intermediary power of literature to help build trust and appreciation in a war-torn world of fragmented societies. In the past four years, ‹KROKODIL› has presented over seventy authors from ten European countries and has become one of the key literary events in the Balkans. The evening will be presented by Kruno Lokotar and Mima Simić.
After the short readings, the legendary Romani band KAL from Belgrade will perform their fabulous music which is correctly described as ‹Rock'n'Roma›. The groovy Balkan sound of the five musicians, Dragan Ristić (guitar, vocals), Miloš Veličković (drums), Slaviša Pavlović-Stanley (bass), Boris Kostić (harmonica) and Milorad Jevremović (violin), is what makes KAL «probably the best Gypsy band east of Paris» according to The Times newspaper - a phenomenon which you should definitely not miss.
