DAMIR IMAMOVIĆ was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1978. Although he was interested in music from an early age, he initially decided to study philosophy. While working on a monograph about his grandfather, Zaim Imamović, a famous and influential Sevdah singer, he discovered the world of Sevdah and professional music for himself. He soon started to compile his own repertoire and gave concerts at home and abroad. Today, he is one of the most important interpreters of ‹Bosnian blues›, an authentic Bosnian-Herzegovinian style of music and poetry.
Damir's interpretations are based on a passionate commitment of sharing the history and aesthetics of this traditional music. He is continuously expanding his programme, thus creating his own contemporary style. For instance, he combines traditional songs with jazz influences. He is seen not only as a representative of the new generation - the so-called fusion Sevdah - but also as an excellent interpreter of traditional Sevdah performance. Damir is frequently on tour with his band ‹Damir Imamović Sevdah Takht› or with solo projects. Together with the director Marina Andree he has additionally filmed the multi-award winning documentary ‹Sevdah› (www.sevdahfilm.com).
