«MAN: If you would admit that you are evil. Not as some sort of apology, but as a form of release. As a fact. As a way to escape from this constant pressure to be good, but unable to do so, as it is sometimes impossible to be what you are not.»

A woman has a new life in a peaceful Western European country; her son has stayed behind in a post-war Balkan country with his father. To give him the best prospects in life, the boy is sent to live with his mother. He quickly adapts to his new environment. But it is not long before new conflicts arise: The mother tries to stop her son having contact with his father, while the father becomes more and more detached. In this emotionally highly-charged atmosphere, the son attempts to be fair to both of them - until he discovers what actually happened in the war. This knowledge means not only the history of his family but also the present is looked upon in a totally different light. In ‹The Death of My City› Daniela Janjic allows two worlds to collide. The author focuses on a family's history in order to deal with the recent political past, a generation scarred by war and the responsibility of the West.

Daniela Janjic was born in 1984 and grew up in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden and Switzerland. She has lived in Winterthur since 1993. Daniela studied Literary Writing at Berne University of the Arts and Dramatic Writing at Berlin University of the Arts. In 2005/06, she successfully participated in the author project ‹Dramenprozessor›. Daniela was awarded the ‹Stückepreis› of the Société Suisse des Auteurs in 2012.
