Musicians have been hearkening the incarnation of God, the Mysterium Magnum, since the Middle Ages. The latest work of the Moscow composer Alexander Raskatov (*1953) for soprano, bass and orchestra was commissioned by the SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA BASEL and CULTURESCAPES. Alfred Schnittke was a composer of the previous generation. His viola and orchestra concert was written for the renowned viola soloist Yuri Bashmet. The perfect end to the evening will be provided by Pyotr Iljyich Tchaikovsky's <1812 Overture>, a rousing and energising composition which made the composer world famous.
