is Pavel Karmanov's musical homage to the city of Moscow. The composer, born in Siberia in 1970, was commissioned by CULTURESCAPES to compose a remarkable sextet for piano, string quartet and double bass. As part of a four-part Russian chamber music programme, the work will be premiered in Basel by the Basel-based BEETHOVENQUARTETT, the Moscow born pianist Alexei Lubimov and the double bass player Botond Kostyak, who was born in Romania. The concert evening will commence with a canon for string quartet by the Russian-German composer Alfred Schnittke. The string quartet in G major by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and the Gran Sestetto original in E flat major for violins and piano by Michail Glinka provide a counterpoint to the contemporary works of the programme.
