When the exceptionally gifted accordion composer and self-taught musician Vladislav Zolotaryov applied to become a member of the Union of Soviet Composers in Moscow in the winter of 1974/75, his friend Friedrich Lips played his sonata no 3. Those present included the composer Sofia Gubaidulina, who was very impressed by Zolotaryov's talent and the Russian accordion, the bajan. However, before his membership formalities had been completed, Zolotaryov committed suicide at the age of 33.
This tragedy inspired Gubaidulina to write her first composition for the bajan <de profundis>. In memory of the composer Vladislav Zolotaryov, <eurythmie-studio-focus> will perform a dance programme with bajan music under the name <de profundis>. None other than Friedrich Lips, who, in the meantime, has become one of the world's best bajan players, will perform at this event. Zolotaryov's philosophical views on existence will also be remembered through a number of spiritual and contemplative works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Sofia Gubaidulina, Vladislav Zolotaryov and John Cage.
