There are not many European jazz musicians who know how to play traditional American jazz with the respect it deserves while incorporating their own style. The tenor saxophonist Juergen Hagenlocher is one of those brave enough to take a leap in the dark. Stylistically, the latest album of the Juergen Hagenlocher Quintet <Leap in The Dark> can be classified as modern jazz. Together with four world-class musicians from the New York jazz scene, Alex Sipiagin (trumpet), David Kikoski (piano), Boris Koslov (double bass) and Donald Edwards (drums), the bandleader plays his own impressive and highly acclaimed compositions. The Russian-born musicians Sipiagin and Koslov began their careers in the Soviet Union and moved to the <Big Apple> in 1991. The drum-virtuoso Donald Edwards has his roots in the New Orleans music scene. Kikoski is one of the most coveted pianists of the international jazz scene and is currently touring Europe with Dave Holland.
