THE ENSEMBLE PHOENIX BASEL is well known for enthralling audiences with experimental and cross-style performances. The ensemble, founded in 1998 by the conductor Jürg Henneberger, is a passionate advocate of contemporary music. In cooperation with CULTURESCAPES Moscow and the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR NEW MUSIC BASEL (IGNM), the ensemble will present a three-part concert particularly dedicated to new sounds from Eastern Europe. Dmitri Kourliandski has become a familiar name in the international new music scene. Born in Moscow in 1976, the composer refers to his music as objective music without action, <which can be compared to a mechanism searching for new sounds>. The Ensemble Phoenix Basel goes in search of these mystical sounds in <Lullaby Dances>. The Armenian pianist and young composer Arman Gushchyan (1981*) will be just as much a discovery with a premiere of his latest work. The soprano arias from the experimental opera OYTIS by the Swiss composer Hanspeter Kyburz (*1960) will provide a spectacular conclusion.
