Her name is OLGA, his name is OLEG. Both of them studied at the Lemberg Academy of Art in the late 1980s. The Ukrainian (1967*) and the Azerbaijanian (*1966) met at the Faculty of Ceramics. «The Maximum Exclusions» is one of their very few joint projects. A western observer would instantly consider their work as being minimalistic or concretism. However, the works are actually room filling installations consisting of clear-cut, colourful, geometric ceramic sculptures and paintings. The US-influenced Minimal Art movement never really reached Russia and the artistic career of the Tatarintsevs began in the field of traditional arts and crafts. A central and fascinating detail of Olga and Oleg's work is, therefore, the artistic examination of ceramics and the archaic technology of world history. This ensures a wonderful contrast between strict formal perfection and the naturalness of the material. The couple's work will be on show for the first time in Switzerland at the RappazMuseum Basel. Sculptured Minimal Art and geometric shapes - Olga and Oleg Tatarintsev challenge our perception and imagination with colourful ceramic installations. Works of the artist couple from Moscow will be exhibited for the first time in Switzerland.
