FAR NORTH is a network of artists which seeks out new directions in opera and musical theatre, and regularly works internationally. Their current production, ‹Ur›, explores the phenomenon of globalisation in the context of a specific arctic region. In close proximity to this enormous icecap, which conserves the history of the earth, humanity becomes very small. Yet in forgetting it's heritage and origin, man still remains a destructive force.
This blind spot, correlation and dangerous oblivion, is what this work brings into view. There are two storylines: the main focus rests on the search for the ‹Ur›, our origins and our communal, mythological background. This at the same time also raises the question of how we made it to the present, and in doing so how we have drifted so far away from ‹Ur›.
