<Paris of the North> is a compelling, character-driven tragicomedy about emotionally stunted men, father-son relationships, masculinity, and the art of good parenting. The story is set in a run-down fishing village in Iceland, a place so small that viewers are left occasionally struggling with feelings of claustrophobia. Hugi is a teacher who has moved away from Reykjavík in order to bring a balance back into his life. Here he can spend his summer holidays jogging, regularly visiting ‘alcoholics anonymous', and learning Portuguese online. One day however, his father turns up at his door, and soon drives Hugi up the wall. Especially as it quickly becomes clear, that he won't be getting rid of his visitor any time soon.
