Works by conceptual artist Kristián Guðmundsson (*1941) are intellectual challenges, peppered with subtle humour, and at the same time hardly to be surpassed in their minimalism.
Works by conceptual artist Kristián Guðmundsson (*1941) are intellectual challenges, peppered with subtle humour, and at the same time hardly to be surpassed in their minimalism. According to the artist himself, Guðmundsson is interested in the tension «between nothing and something». During the 1960s and 1970s, as co-founder of the Avant-garde movement SÙM (influenced by conceptual and installation art), Guðmundsson contributed to a radical revival of the understanding of art in Iceland. The RappazMuseum is showing a cross-section of his oevre, with works from Pétur Arason and Ragna Róbertsdóttir's extraordinary SAFN collection.
