‹Culturescapes Island› explores the cultural landscape of the island in the North Atlantic under the aspects of history, language and trauma. In Iceland, literature is particularly closely linked to historiography and has strongly influenced the young nation. Literature, Iceland's most traditional art form, is therefore discussed in more detail. Icelandic experts, artists and creators as well as connoisseurs from the rest of Europe describe an extremely creative and sensational cultural scene and its basis in Iceland's fascinating history. The volume is completed by a picture series of contemporary photographic work. With contributions by Ástráður Eysteinsson, Jürg Glauser, Hallgrímur Helgason and Andri Snær Magnason.
