Festival ‹Culturescapes China›: September to December 2010 in Switzerland
How did the first Chinese electronic music festival work without electricity? Why do you have to paint an original Hutong house for the Olympics light grey? These and other questions will be answered by over thirty authors who look back on the development from a subculture to a cultural industry. The authors are actively involved in the Chinese scene itself.
A review of the past ten years points to developments after the financial crisis and the 'Year of Remembrance 2009'. The focus is on the question of how artists deal with the themes of memory and the search for roots.
What is presented here is Chinese, but not necessarily foreign, Asian, but not limited to tourist craftsmanship. So Beijing opera is not here, but punk from Beijing, Internet literature, and performance photography are. (www.inasien.de, March 2011)
