Only speaking one language seems to be a rare phenomenon these days. Such a deliberate reduction reflects a strong inner conviction and unreserved views and feelings. In their music, the band Monoglot preserves this nostalgic feeling evoked by the minimalism, simplicity and equally complex richness of a monoglot lifestyle. With captivating, energetic live performances the Basel-based Swiss-German-Icelandic Quintett have attracted much attention in recent years. The sound of two tenor saxophones, a guitar, an e-bass and a drum-kit paints a naïve-energetic, delicate and emotional sound-pattern. Compositional sophistication dissolves into improvised figures; structure and chaos unite to an indie-alternative-jazz sound with a punk attitude.
