Skúli Sverrisson (*1966) is one of Iceland's most important and influential jazz bassists, composers and producers. Over the past two decades the New York-based Icelander has collaborated with the crème de la crème of the jazz world, including Allan Holdsworth, Laurie Anderson, Jim Black, Derek Bailey, Chris Speed and Lou Reed. His approaches range from traditional folk, across mind-sets and styles of jazz, to forms, which work themselves free of all stylistics.
Since 2006 he has also been very successful in collaborating with the singer-songwriter Ólöf Arnalds (*1980). Five albums are testimony to their many years of close cooperation, including Ólöf‘s current, and fourth, solo album ‹Palme› (2014) which she now brings to Switzerland. Here Icelandic electro-folk meets indie-rock, pop, and worldbeat - «as pure as powdered snow, yet bubbling over with fairy mischief» as described by one Icelandic critic.
