Martin Montag and Martin Marinetti, a radiologist from Berlin and his French namesake, have a fateful meeting in Steinunn Sigurdardóttir's (*1950) ‹Jojo› (Rowohlt, 2014). Two men soon bound together not only by a deep friendship, but also by a dark secret from their past: both live under the constant shadow of suicide, and both struggle for their own way to survive. Martin Montag through purposeful ambition and discipline verging on self-abandonment, the other unconventionally, by largely opposing social norms. ‹Jojo› is a smart, committed drama about deception and betrayal and is world-encompassing, atmospheric and dense. «Steinunn Sigurdardóttir is a literary star» (NZZ). Moderated by Verena Stössinger.
