The chamber choir Schola Cantorum Reykjavicensis was founded in 1996 by Hörður Áskelsson, the choirmaster of the Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík. Since its infancy the choir has played an important role in the Icelandic music scene; alongside large choir-pieces from the renaissance and the baroque oeuvres, and contemporary pieces, their repertoire is largely comprised of world premieres by Icelandic composers. The choir is not limited to the world of classical music, but have recorded with Björk on her album ‹Medulla›, and with the experimental Swedish band Wildbirds & Peacedrums on their album ‹Rivers›. Time and again the 16 singers have successfully participated in competitions and performed at international festivals. Alongside international and sacred choir music, numerous Icelandic folksongs are included on the set list for their five Swiss concerts.
