Iceland's countryside is not just an aesthetic, but also a social and political challenge, especially when confronted with today's ecological and economic crises.
Iceland's countryside is not just an aesthetic, but also a social and political challenge, especially when confronted with today's ecological and economic crises. In 2003 the National Power Company of Iceland started building the Kárahnjúkar hydroelectric project in eastern Iceland. This intervention is destroying one of the largest areas of unspoiled countryside in Europe, making the Kárahnjúkar project not only the biggest, but also the most controversial project in Iceland's history. Additionally, it contributed significantly to the financial crisis. Pétur Thomsen (*1973) documented the construction of its dams. Impressive large prints of <Imported Landscape> will be shown in Unternehmen Mitte.
