At first glance, the multicoloured striped rectangles could be taken for concrete works of art. At second glance, however, it becomes apparent that the project ‹Life Stripe› actually visualises the daily routines of individual people, thus depicting everyday life in a new, colourful light: Usual everyday routines, including sleeping, eating and working, are translated into 21 colours and recorded on a temporal axis of 24 hours. The diversity of the single ‹Life Stripe›-works points out individual, cultural and social differences; their sum depicts the pattern of life in general so to say.
‹Life Stripe› was started by the two graphical designers Haruna Yamada and Hirokazu Kobayashi in 2004. The interdisciplinary project operates in the grey area between art, design, psychology and sociology and possibly also affects the perception of the observer's own life.
