Art Historian Hans Bjarne Thomsen will illustrate the impact of Japanese art on European artists during the event ‹Japanese arts: Past and Present›. While the aesthetics of traditional wood cutting had an impact on works by, amongst others, Matisse and Van Gogh in the 19th century, its influence today can still be observed, for instance, in Western comics which incorporate elements of the Japanese manga.
