Ali Akbar, a young, contemporary author from Baku and head of a PR agency, does not pull his punches. Born in Baku in 1978, he initially worked for several Azerbaijani magazines after graduating in Journalism and Public Relations and before turning his attention to literature. His novels and short stories touch on important issues of the day. He challenges perceptions about social norms and deals critically with the upheavals following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Akbar's works are characterized by his courage to provoke debate and are reminiscent of socio-critical artists like Pier Paolo Pasolini. But his writings are certainly not devoid of absurd humour, as is often the case with postmodern authors. Ali Akbar has been invited to participate in the panel discussion ‹mosca muerte - the scene is dead!›. This discussion will include members of the Swiss community: e.g. Betty Manz and Eveline Nay.
