The jazz pianist and composer Salman Gambarov and the soprano Farida Mamedova interpret excerpts from the song cycles of Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler; three nineteenth century composers who illustrate the inner continuity of tradition and its flowing transition into today and now. The selected songs reflect the many facets of love – deep frustration, passion, cold-heartedness. Despite the jazz-styled versions, the timeless elegance of the original classical music is still expressed.
Mamedova has been a soloist at the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Baku since 1997. Gambarov‘s music is shaped by his classical education and his passion for the musical traditions of Azerbaijan. Their joint concert offers an extraordinary blend of classical music and jazz.
