The Show in Vaduz will not take place in the Expo-Pavillon but in the Rathaussaal.
The origins of Chinese shadow play - a special form of Chinese puppet play - go back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). Over the centuries many different styles have developed, varying in the size of the figures, material, music and vocals. The group from Huanxian under the direction of Zhang Yuqin is the assembly of the best puppet players from 40 local groups from a densely populated region of North-Eastern China. Stories lasting from between 10 and 20 minutes will be told in the form of anecdotes, fairytales and legends; the texts are partly sung and partly spoken. The 30cm tall and beautifully handcrafted puppets from Huanxian are made of tanned and dried cow-skin and painted by hand. Using three bamboo sticks, which are attached on the head and the extremities, the puppet player brings the puppets to life and lets them unfold their mysterious aura on the screen in half-light.
