This group exhibition displays works from young artists born in the 1980s. As residents of the global village, this so-called "Gelatine Generation" (amorphous and aimless) knows no economic and cultural boundaries. The displayed works show kindergarten-like art, which is characterised by bright colours and shapes, toys, animals or weapons. Other works are desolate and reflect the purposelessness of this generation. They also reflect a longing for their childhood, wanting to escape from the present. In their artistic means of expression they choose to show themselves as colourful as possible; by painting, filming, making pictures, installations, designs, music, films and games. The tension of being worn out by their refusal to grow up and by the pressure placed on them by society manifests itself in all their works.
In cooperation with the Fundaziun NAIRS (in the canton Grisons, Switzerland) two emerging artists of the exhibition will participate in a two-month ‹artist-in-residence-program›: Yu Hua (born in 1984) und Chen Yun (born in 1985). Their works will be exhibited in the ‹Curraint d'Ajer | Durchzug 2010› from September 25th to October 17th in NAIRS.
Curator of this exhibition is Zhang Qing, vice-director of the Shanghai Art Museum.
The exhibition is open Wednesday to Sunday 14.00 - 19.00, on Thursdays until 20.00
