‹Rising East - new chinese architecture 2000-2010› presents the works of young and very successful architects such as Ma Yansong (MAD Architects Office, Beijing) playing with their own new architectural forms. Their works reflect the increasing influence of life-style and multimedia formats on contemporary architecture of Chinese Cities, characterized through cultural densification and mounting functionality. Rem Koolhaas's idea that buildings represent a "social catalyser" becomes leitmotif.
After the socialist experiences in the second half of the 20th century, Lifestyle, new materials and a radical new interpretation of historical models have become the base for new Chinese architecture. Rapid urban development creates a new working field, enabling new ideas and interpretations and leading to enormous aesthetical potential. Futuristic design and forms close to nature characterize these newly developing urban concepts which are displayed next to other projects, which have already been completed or are still currently in construction.
In addition to the exhibition there will be talks of Beijing architect Ma Yansong and curator Fang Zhenning.
