The Production "La cérémonie" inspired by the same-named movie directed by Claude Chabrol in which the uneducated domestic Sophie and her friend use a hunting gun to shoot an upper-class family in the living room while they are watching the live opera "Don Giovanni" on TV uses this key scene as the kick-off for the theatrical play. "La Cérémonie" traces the paths of hidden misunderstandings, unintended injustice, hurt feelings and the rage against unfairly distributed wealth, which lay the foundations for violent escalation. The ceremonies that 400asa is trying to reawaken are connected to the Cultural Revolution, the opera riots, pitfalls appearing in intercultural cooperation, the anesthetisation of social injustice in art, and the citizens rebelling against the rituals of a society synonymous with decadence.
‘Züri brännt' (Zürich is on fire). Beijing too. And Bern anyway. A wide range of musical genres, ranging from commercial music to Mozart, from Brecht's songs to Peking Opera, translate political questions into sensual amusement - a true massacre on stage.
