Lecture by Thomas A. Szlezák, University of Tübingen It has been clear for a long time that the in-depth study of the Greek-Roman antiquity is threatened, for scholarly (and practical) reasons. Today, however, it is not only the concern for our origin that is threatened, but also that which resulted from this origin: European identity itself. «Without reducing Europe to its Greek heritage I consider reflection on this aspect of our identity necessary, if we don’t want to lose the idea of «Europe» itself.»
