Ohad Talmor is a saxophonist, composer and arranger. He is originally from Israel but grew up in Switzerland and is a long time resident of Brooklyn, New York. He studied composing at the Manhattan School of Music. He performs regularly with his own project; Newsreel - a diverse group of creative New York musicians: Dan Weiss, Jacob Sacks, Miles Okazaki, Shane Endsley and Matt Pavolka. Ohad Talmor also plays with the Steve Swallow Trio (featuring Adam Nussbaum) and Mass Transformation, a Nonet featuring the Spring String Quartet Wien, the singer Judith Berkson, Pete McCann, Shane Endsley and Mark Ferber focussing on the music of Anton Bruckner. Talmor has also played music with Jason Moran, Josh Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Cheek, Dave Douglas, Carla Bley, Paul Motian, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter and Billy Hart. Together with his old friend and mentor Lee Konitz, Ohad Talmor co-leads three projects: the Lee Konitz New Nonet, the Konitz-Talmor String Project and the Konitz-Talmor Big Band. As a composer and arranger, Talmor is equally involved in writing for jazz and classical music. His music has been performed by numerous ensembles around the world, including Portugal’s OJM Big Band, Switzerland’s Big Band de Lausanne, Brazil’s SoundScape Orquestra, the Brecker Brothers or Belgium’s Bruxelles Jazz Orchestra. Ohad Talmor spends a considerable amount of time playing and studying the bansuri, an Indian bamboo flute.
