CULTURESCAPES Poland has officially come to an end. In order to ease this fond farewell, we gathered some of the best moments to look back on.
CULTURESCAPES Poland contained: 76 concerts, 1 artist in residence, 370 press articles, 5 artist talks, 50'000 festival newspapers, 1 bar, 4 countries, 6 languages, 59'655 visitors, 324 sandwiches, 1 theatre workshop, 16 lost pieces of luggage, 43 theatre- and danceperformances, a lot of beer, 7 art exhibitions, 19 team meetings, 16 readings, 484 invitations to the opening, 16 focus events, 1 Oscar winner, 107 partners, 2 Nobel Prize winners, 9 team members, countless sleepless nights, 1 water damage, 29 cities and municipalities, 8 boxing fights, 63 festival days, 2150 posters, 1 broken car, 0 injured people, 3 cancelled flights, 2 panel discussions, ∞ pierogis, 1900 telephone minutes, 101 perfumes, 332 booked hotel rooms, 21 delayed flights, 4677 film minutes and 1 happy ending.
In the fifteenth edition the festival CULTURESCAPES was dedicated to the Polish cultural scene. In the Basel area and in 18 other cities in all four language regions of Switzerland, as well as in Lörrach (D) and Mulhouse (F), events took place in the fields of music, dance, theatre, film, art, literature and focus. From the 5th of October to the 6th of December, the extensive programme offered numerous opportunities to get to know Poland's culture and to question or revise ready-made images and ideas. Nearly 60,000 people visited the 280 or so events held as part of the festival.
Jurriaan Cooiman and Kateryna Botanova curated the programme of the 15th edition of CULTURESCAPES, in close coordination with the respective event partners. CULTURESCAPES was financially supported mainly by the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Baselland, Hoffmann-La Roche and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The festival was also co-financed by both embassies and numerous Swiss cities and cantons as well as foundations.
CULTURESCAPES has lived up to its ambition of reflecting current Polish culture along the lines of protest, history and spirituality.
