When it comes to style, the Basel Chamber Orchestra is extremely flexible, utilising both historical and modern instruments and often daringly entering completely new territory with an extremely broad repertoire ranging from baroque and classical to contemporary music.

The concept of the programme sequence this evening at Burghof Lörrach is also full of new ideas: Two modern-day composers embrace a pair of piano concertos with delicate sound elements. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756-1791) Piano Concerto in A major KV 414 is a masterpiece of his early concert work. The Piano Concerto in A minor by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) is a much-played zenith of romantic music and, due to its abundance of delicate poetic metamorphoses, demands a brilliant demonstration of pianistic skill from the Polish soloist Piotr Anderszewski (*1969). The programme is complemented with «Sinfonietta» by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) and «Meta Arca» for solo violin by
Heinz Holliger (*1939).
